SNOW SQUALLS dominating Gatlinburg, TN yesterday but especially the Smoky Mountains!

Intercept of winter storm warning in Gatlinburg, TN after morning deep cleaning / root scaling procedure at the dentist prevented me from intercepting the nor’easter. Over a foot of snow fell at the very highest ridges of the Smoky Mountains with drifts over 3 feet. Heaviest snowfall rates intercepted on I40 between 1600 and 2000′ where the steepest terrain change also happens from west-to-east. This is expected as this snow event was driven by orographic lift, and the same vorticity maximum that resulted in tornadoes in northeast OK a few days prior.
